Villa
Lido Guest Comments:
Hello Reg and Alan, Thanks for your note regarding our recent visit to Villa Lido. Speaking for our group, I believe that I can say without reservation that our visit to Villa Lido more than met our expectations. Beginning with our driver Denton Prendergast, the accommodations at the Villa, and of course the wonderful staff consisting of Roy, who became affectionately known as Uncle Roy, Madge, who became Miss Madge, Hylton, Sharon, and Michael. As a team, they were unbeatable; no request however minor or complex was given anything less than their full attention and effort, and they always came through for us. The experience started with Denton taking the early arrivals, the Pattersons on a short private tour of Montego Bay, and from then on during the rest of the visit, things just got better. We were met at the Villa by Cynthia Silvera, who was as charming as she could be in providing the necessary orientation, advice on shopping for the ladies, helping us to plan the week's activities, and providing us with a printed schedule; she is truly an asset to the Villa's activities. Since about half the group was not of Jamaican heritage, we consulted with Uncle Roy and Miss Madge as to how we could introduce Jamaican cuisine to the non-Jamaican members of the group without being overbearing. They recommended that the introduction of the local cuisine be done via appetizers. This was a great attraction, and some of the items became permanent fare at almost every meal, e.g., calaloo and saltfish, ackee and saltfish, Johnnie cakes. During the course of the week, we also dined extensively on escoveitched snapper, mackerel run-down, stew peas, chicken soup, curried lobster, curried chicken, curried goat, conch soup, broiled steaks, barbecued ribs, and rice and peas (every day), we literally stuffed ourselves daily. While the Villa was everything as advertised, TVs, telephone, intercom, Internet access, four acres of wonderfully kept property, swimming pool, and the Caribbean Sea at our doorstep, we believe that the Villa's greatest asset is its staff of five very dedicated and caring folks. We regard Uncle Roy as the perfect host and gentleman, and Miss Madge as a superb cook, the best we have met in our many visits to Villas in Jamaica and Central America. Hilton was as helpful as he could be including keeping us fully supplied with drinks, Sharon kept the place immaculately clean, and Michael and Hilton put on tutorials on how to extract water and jelly from green coconuts -- this was a big seller especially with the non-Jamaicans. To show our appreciation to the staff, the ladies wrote and personally delivered individual thank you notes to every member of the staff, and insisted that they all join us for dinner on Saturday Evening. We all had a great time, and wish to thank the staff for their part making it happen. As if we were not pampered enough, I forgot my overcoat, and Cynthia had it delivered by FedEx two days after I arrived in Chicago. We would not hesitate to recommend your services and Villa Lido to our friends. Best regards, Cecil & Bertha | |||
